Synopsis

"Coup d'État, Part 4" The Authority sets out to stop the American military and gain custody of the President. The team seeks to appease the aliens whose ship was destroyed when the US government negligently sent an engine into the Bleed. The aliens threaten to attack Earth by destroying a group of targets and eliminating the United States Armed Forces. Furious, the President rants that the US made the world, and that the Authority have no right to usurp his command. On the Carrier, Jack Hawksmoor is in contact with the heads of other international governments. Jack tells them flat out that the Authority will do what they want. Swift calls the Authority to New York City, where the aliens have begun their attack. Apollo kills many of the aliens, and Hawksmoor threatens the others aliens to cease their attacks and leave, until the Authority provides them with the person responsible for their plight. The Doctor performs a spell that makes the remaining military drunk, so they cannot interfere with Midnighter's raid on the White House. Midnighter kills most of President Kent's guards, and takes the President. The Authority present the President to the aliens, who are furious at being forced into combat after five hundred years of peace. The Authority kills Kent to appease the aliens, who leave Earth unhappy and disgusted of what they had done to Kent. The Authority talk afterward. The team doctored the footage the aliens saw so that Kent would get all the blame and convince the aliens to leave Earth. The team wonders about the compromise they had to make, and then announce to the world that they have taken over the Unites States until further notice. The Authority are then left to wonder how they are going to run a country.
